AlpenQuest specializes in quality outdoor education through classroom
seminars, field sessions, custom courses, and team building exercises,
as well as boasting a full line of outdoor rental and demo equipment,
and retail sales of survival and outdoor gear. AlpenQuest began
in 1979 in Fort Collins, Colorado conducting classes and trips in
whitewater
rafting, backpacking, survival skills, cross country skiing and
backcountry ski touring, winter camping, and teaching conditioning
and fitness
classes. AlpenQuest’s founder, Greg Wiggins, has become one
of the nation’s foremost experts in wilderness and winter
survival.
During the winter of 1981 - 1982, while located in Crested Butte,
Colorado, Quest Survival School, as it was known then, began its
intense cold weather survival school for the U.S. Coast Guard Polar
Operations Division. This intensive week-long course prepared helicopter
pilots, air crewmen, and ship crewmen of the Coast Guard Icebreakers
for their deployment to the Polar Regions. The following year the
U.S. Navy began utilizing the program to train their personnel for
Ice Camp Operations in the Arctic. Since then, AlpenQuest has trained
hundreds of personnel from the USCG Polar Operations Division, thirteen
U.S. Naval organizations, the Department of Energy, the Division
of Wildlife, US Army 10th Special Forces, and numerous other government
and civilian agencies, as well as countless private individuals.
In January of 1997, AlpenQuest formally incorporated and expanded
its operations exponentially. This new team broadened the ideas and
horizons of the growing business. AlpenQuest added many new facets
to its organization, such as unique team-building and leadership
enhancement programs with outdoor themes such as survival and climbing
challenges. These courses are designed primarily for businesses,
corporations, and government agencies looking to expand their competitive
edge, or just build a more cohesive team. AlpenQuest’s expanded
line of professional outdoor training includes classes and field
sessions such as rock-climbing, snow and glacier travel, ice climbing,
Level 1 Avalanche courses, GPS training, and much more.
Many top manufacturers in the outdoor industry proudly sponsor AlpenQuest
programs. We boast a complete line of rental-demo gear extensively
used in the field sessions and expeditions. AlpenQuest is on several
research and development teams for these manufacturers, and provide
regular feedback and ideas for product improvement and innovations.
AlpenQuest is located in Monument/Colorado Springs, Colorado and
conducts year-round courses, team building exercises, seminars, field
sessions, and expeditions regularly throughout the Pikes Peak Region,
the State of Colorado, and around the country. AlpenQuest continues
to offer its high quality classroom seminars and field sessions on
a wide variety of outdoor-related topics. These presentations and
courses can be tailored to suit the needs of specific groups or individuals.
We continue to conduct custom tailored courses for government agencies
as experts in the field of winter survival and avalanche safety.
